MP Velu Kumar resigns from COPE

United National Party Kandy district Parliamentarian and member of the parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) M Velu Kumar has decided to resign from the COPE. His letter of resignation has been handed over to the Speaker of Parliament on Wednesday.

MP Velu Kumar has attributed his busy schedule as the reason for the departure as he is a member of several other parliamentary committees.

The MP has said that the decision to leave the investigative body was taken after considering its increasing workload and rapid pace of developments.

Meanwhile, UNP parliamentarian, and State Minister of International Trade Sujeewa Senasinghe is likely to be nominated to the COPE, local media reports said quoting UNP sources.
